Instructor-Led Training
Client: The Needle House - Small business retail.
Title: New Hire Onboarding
Tools: Google Slides with Slidesgo, Google Docs, Canva, 7Taps, Google Sheets.
Development Time: 40 Hours.
Challenge: New hire employees love the Needle House and its product, which is why they want to work there. Much of the new hire training to this point has been quick, on-the-job training. This has left gaps in knowledge and skill that can be solved through a different kind of training. Closing knowledge and skill gaps in the areas of sales technique, store inventory, and navigation of the point of sale system, can dramatically increase revenue by equipping sales associates with actionable knowledge about how to sell store merchandise, and by decreasing the number of mistakes made in the point of sale system.
Solution: Instructor-led training course consisting of three stations, led by a facilitator and three subject matter experts, that will take place over two hours on a Sunday afternoon. Participants will be paid for their time. The stations will consist of a sales training role play activity, an inventory and store walk with recall assessment questions, and hands-on training with the point of sale system.
Use: This microlearning activity will be sent to participants the night before the training as a means of preparing them for the next day's activities. This activity takes less than two minutes to complete, gives the participant a clear set of expectations, and builds anticipation for the training.
Tool: Built with 7Taps.com
Use: The slide deck will primarily be used by the introductory/closing presenter, and at the discretion of the subject matter expert presenters. Station One, in particular, will use this slide deck. Station Two will use it only as a means of dividing their sessions between activity and facilitator assessment. And Station Three will use this, if necessary, as a means guiding the participants through the process of a work order check in (but there is also a job aid that does the same thing in the Participant Guide.
Tool: Built with Google Slides and Slidesgo.
Use: The training will be conducted by one introductory presenter and three subject matter experts. The facilitator's guide will be given to each of the four presenters.
Tool: Built using Google Docs, Google Slides, and Canva.
Participant Guide
Use: This is a set of materials given to participants as they arrive at the workshop. It includes worksheets, questions, and a job aid.
Tool: Built using Canva.
Use: This course blueprint acted as the primary building block for the entire course. I refined it as I went, but for the most part, nailing down the business objective and primary learning objectives in the beginning allowed me to design and develop activities to meet those learning objectives.
Tool: Google Sheets
Use: Using the Kirkpatrick Model of training assessment, this set of three surveys is intended for immediate use. The surveys measure Level 1: Reaction, Level 2: Learning, and Level 4: Results.* Participants respond first to a statement on sliding scale of 1-10, then are asked a follow-up question based on their response.
*Level 3: On-the-Job Evaluation will be done at a later time to assess the behavior change and retention of learning as a result of the training.
